From first glance this site looked like a challenge. This fantastic Bayview residential location rises sharply from the street, before coming to a steep 15-metre drop at its rear. It was a puzzle – how best to approach the design?

Then we had our eureka moment: interior and exterior sightlines had to be made integral to the design. We made certain that occupants could overlook interior shared communal spaces throughout the entire house; that the double-height entry was clearly visible from the street; and that large glazed elevations in the entry, foyer and living areas enabled strong visual connection with both street and naturally landscaped external courtyard.

The double garage, wine cellar and rooftop terrace with natural bushland and water views – as well as further landscaping and planting for outdoor recreation areas – make this a remarkable luxury residence, but the key to our design was to be found in its sightlines and unique positioning.
