Our brief for the renovation of Metropolitan Baptist Church was to create more space and additional facilities, including a new learning area, a commercial kitchen, internal toilets, and wheelchair access.

A major aspect of the renovation was the addition of a training, recreational and wellbeing centre for the community of Lane Cove and surrounding suburbs. Our design approach was to create a dynamic and highly adaptable space that welcomes people of all ages and promotes learning and spiritual growth. The centre consists of eight bright classrooms that combine into a lecture hall and auditorium with seating for 300 people. It also includes a parents’ room, a creche, guest accommodation, landscaped gardens and a towering lobby that connects to the existing church.

Effective acoustic design was an essential part of the brief, considering the hard surfaces throughout the space. Lighting was another important design element, incorporated into the aesthetic of the building with a linear ceiling LED cross sculpture.
